Cara Smith - Family Law Department 

Cara Hale-BurtCara works closely with many of the region’s women’s refuges, assisting women who are victims of domestic abuse and also giving advice to male victims. Cara is also a dedicated member of the Board of Trustees for Newcastle Women’s Aid.

Cara has a particular interest in domestic abuse cases, residence and contact disputes between parents and also public law matters including care proceedings and cases involving child protection issues.

Cara studied for her LLB Law Degree at Newcastle University gaining a 2:1 class degree in 2003. She went to on to complete the Legal Practice Course at Northumbria University on a part time basis, whilst working for the firm as a Paralegal in the family department. During her training contract with the firm Cara gained a wide breadth of experience in the Family, Immigration and Housing Departments and she qualified as a Solicitor in the family department in April 2009.
