Clare Routledge – Civil Law Department

Clare is a member of the Law Society Children Panel, which recognises her expertise in representing children in care proceedings. She is regularly instructed by Children’s Guardians as well as continuing to represent parents and other family members. She is renowned in the North East for her skill in this area.
Clare is a Higher Rights Advocate and a member of Resolution.
Clare heads the Civil Team and Small Business Team. She has over 20 years experience in all areas of civil litigation that the firm undertakes.
Clare’s vast experience in personal injury work is demonstrated by her membership of the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel. She is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Panel and is currently working towards accreditation as a Senior Litigator.
Clare specialises in Police Complaints and Actions Against the Police. She represents clients both locally and nationally in pursuing complaints to police forces and the Independent Police Complaints Commission. She represents clients in bringing claims for compensation through the Courts arising from the actions of police officers. She is a committed member of Police Action Lawyers Group and Human Rights Lawyers Group. Her recent successes include the key human rights case of Brown v. Chief Constable of Northumbria Police.
Clare has a great deal of experience in dealing with inheritance claims and disputed estates. She has represented many successful Claimants in achieving substantial settlements at what is a very difficult time.
Clare read Law and Politics at Durham University and qualified as a solicitor in 1978. She was President of Newcastle Law Society in 2008 which recognises her commitment to legal services in the North East.
