The dangers of DIY divorces

Online divorces – a DIY divorce

Quick, easy and affordable online divorce services” – the ‘quick fix solution’ that could come to bite you in years to come.

Although divorce rates are at their lowest rate since 1973 (ONS) a lot of divorce petitions are now going online, it seems appropriate to consider the implications of this.

Our Family department explains the importance of seeking legal advice in the first instance.

“Contrary to popular belief, obtaining a divorce doesn’t put an end to financial ties. For some people this can be the most difficult and stressful part of the divorce.”

It is vital that you understand your rights and responsibilities so you can be clear about what options are available to you and how you can plan for the future. Most people don’t realise that starting a divorce process opens the door to a financial claim being made by either party.

Managing your financial separation can leave you confused, distressed and anxious. This is something that our large team of Divorce and Finance Solicitors are experts in and are here to provide advice and support.

The process can involve valuations of some of your most personal possessions, such as your home, pensions, savings and businesses.

Any agreement made outside of Court is not legally binding and therefore is not enforceable. You will need a Court Order to provide certainty. You wouldn’t sell your house without a formal agreement, so why would you settle for anything less with your divorce?

The law on Divorce and Financial settlement can be complex. There are different ways in which you can resolve matters and spending time considering this at the beginning can save a lot of time, money and heartache.
