David Gray takes on International Women’s Day

Interesting fact: Last year we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919, which made it possible for women to qualify as barristers or solicitors. According to the Law Society statistics, there are now more women than men practising as solicitors. With over 70 female staff and a majority female management team here at David Gray Solicitors, it seems fitting to celebrate International Women’s Day in style!

International Women’s Day has been around for over 100 years with the first event dating back to 1911. Although the annual celebration takes place on 8th March every year, the campaign runs all year round. The main mission behind the global celebration is to recognise the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and embrace equality. This is done by hosting events and coming together to support and empower women.

How are we getting involved?

David Gray Solicitors are proud sponsors of the International Women’s Day celebration hosted by North-East Youth taking place at The Gate in Newcastle. Over the last 85 years, North-East Youth have supported over 1 million young people across the northern region.  They do this by hosting events to strengthen and support young people. The main aim of the event is to have fun and celebrate together as women, which will involve lots of live music and canapés!

The more active among us also took part in the This Girl Can Celebration, which was a 5k UV themed fun run around Exhibition Park. This Girl Can is a National Lottery funded organisation which supports girls and women to get active.

How will you make International Women’s Day your day? #eachforequal
