Family Matters – funding extended

Guest blog by Claire Hunter, Family Matters Guide

We are delighted to confirm that our pioneering Family Matters service has been granted a funding extension which means that we are able to help even more parents in the coming months.

So far, the Resolution Family Matters Pilot Project has helped 1,200 parents with their separation difficulties.

Family Matters is a legal support service for all separating, or separated parents.  It is a free service if you are a parent in receipt of any benefit other than just child benefit or if your ex-partner has already been to see us.

Family Matters Guides are experienced solicitors and mediators.

A Family Matters Guide will work with parents to help solve their problems.  These may include issues of divorce, financial aspects of separation, maintenance, benefits, housing, understanding their rights and making arrangements for their children as well as the emotional fall-out of family breakdown.

Feedback so far from parents who have used the scheme has been very positive. Parents have told us:

  • “making my options clear has been a massive help”
  • “you gave me hope”
  • “it was very, very useful to discuss issues and formulate an action plan.  It has helped organise my thoughts”
  • “I am feeling much more in control and can sort out my situation”

The service, which supports parents who no longer qualify for legal aid, is being piloted in three areas nationally, Crewe, Oxford and Newcastle upon Tyne.

Your local Family Matters service is based in the offices of David Gray Solicitors.

Please contact either Claire or Amy on 0191 230 2138 to make an appointment.
