Driving Licence Changes from 1 January 2015
From 1 January 2015, the DVLA will no longer issue the paper counterpart to the photocard driving licence. Instead, you and others who need to, will be able to check your driving record online here https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence by providing your driving licence number, National Insurance number and postcode.
You do not need to take any action now, just keep your current driving licence. If you don’t think you’ll need the counterpart after 1 January 2015 you may destroy it then. If you need to change your address in future you can do it online here https://www.gov.uk/change-address-driving-licence.
If you have an old style paper driving licence issued before the photocard was introduced in 1998, this change won’t affect you, and you should keep your licence. The next time you need to update your name, address or renew your licence, you will be issued with a photocard only.
Entitlements, penalty points and the status of your driving licence will not change.
