Solicitor – Crime & Motoring
Salary: Commensurate with experience (starting at £32,000 N.Q.)

We are looking for a committed and capable criminal defence solicitor to join our Crime Department. This position offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the delivery of high‑quality legal services within a firm dedicated to legal aid, access to justice, and the provision of professional and effective representation.
About the Role
The successful candidate will undertake a diverse caseload of criminal matters. The role includes providing representation at the police station and undertaking court work.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Providing clear, accurate and timely advice, assistance, and representation to clients across a broad spectrum of criminal matters.

Managing a busy and fast‑moving caseload while maintaining excellent client care and meeting key deadlines.
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations, including those set by the Legal Aid Agency and the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Accurately recording time, progressing matters efficiently, and meeting agreed billing/performance targets.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the department, offering support and contributing to a positive team culture.
- Keeping your legal knowledge up to date, participating in supervision, and maintaining relevant accreditations.
Person Specification
- A qualified solicitor with experience in criminal law; Duty Solicitor accreditation is desirable but not essential.
- A demonstrable commitment to publicly funded work and to ensuring equitable access to justice for all clients.
- Ability and willingness to undertake police station advice work, including participation in the duty rota once accredited.
- Excellent communication, analytical and advocacy skills.
- Strong organisational capabilities with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively in a high‑pressure environment.
- A professional and supportive approach to teamwork, combined with the ability to work independently when required.
- A proactive attitude towards compliance, risk management and continuous improvement.
