Katie Westgarth

I am a solicitor within the family team at David Gray Solicitors. I have experience in a number of areas of family law including pre-proceedings child protection, care proceedings, domestic abuse, divorce and separation and private children matters.

I have a particular interest in care proceedings and child protection. I advise parents and family members and I have experience of dealing with cases which include allegations of sexual abuse, non-accidental injuries and drug and alcohol issues. I have also represented clients in the Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC).

I am aware that I work with clients who are experiencing difficult circumstances and I endeavour to approach each case with empathy, care and understanding. I have experience of dealing with vulnerable clients which has necessitated expert assessment and intermediary support. I pride myself on my pragmatic and straightforward approach to cases, tailoring my advice to the needs and understanding of each of my clients.

I am a member of Resolution. Resolution is an organisation of family lawyers and other professionals who are committed to taking a non-confrontational approach and considering the needs of the whole family, in particular the best interests of the children when resolving family law disputes.

I graduated from Northumbria University with a First Class Masters in Law (Exempting). Following my graduation I joined a firm in Newcastle to undertake my training contract and qualified as a Solicitor in November 2020.
